4 Simple Steps to Assess Your Business

We are in the final quarter of 2022, CEOs! We've earned and learned for the last nine months, and now it is time to evaluate our progress and regroup for the remainder of the year to end 2022 strong.

Taking time to do this has reaped tremendous benefits for my businesses and my growth as a CEO. I follow a simple plan that I want to share to help you make the most of the last half of this year.

The four steps I follow are: Assess. Reset. Make A Plan. Start Again.

Mid-Year CEO Check-In Steps

Assess - Review the last six months. Look over your business practices and personal habits to celebrate your victories and identify things, relationships, services, habits, and clients out of alignment with your business and life goals. A few questions to help you with this step: What worked well for you? What (or who) wasn’t a good fit? What remains undone? What do you wish you had more time to focus on?

Reset - Identify 1-3 areas where you want to focus your energy for the next 1, 3, or 6 months. An opportunity to reset you priorities and intentionally decide where you want to spend your time and direct your energy is empowering. It allows you to take control of your schedule to ensure what you do every day matches the outcome you want to achieve this year and beyond. While this list may be long (you have such good ideas!), in order to implement immediately you will have to focus your energy. Review your list and determine what needs to be done now or what is your most timely opportunity (i.e. some things are tied to seasons, funding, trends, emergent business needs, or pressing life needs). Only choose 1-3 things to give yourself adequate time to implement with excellence and proper planning.

Make A Plan - Break your top 1-3 goals down into smaller tasks. Make a schedule to achieve them. Now come the details! This is step where we explore the HOW of your process. Select one goal. Write out what you hope to achieve and all the steps and resources required to achieve it. Next, determine a time limit to achieve this task. How long will this take - 1 month or 6 months? Once that time limit is set work backwards to set deadlines for each of the smaller tasks included in the goal. How do you need to allocate your time and resources to achieve this goal? Also identify where you need help and make a list of the necessary resources to incorporate in your process.

Start Again. It's time to get moving! - Commit to your plan, set a start and finish date, and get moving! Lean into your desire, discipline your efforts, and dedicate yourself to focusing and finishing until you reach your goal.

It’s amazing what you can accomplish in a few months. Set some time to work through this and get started creating the life and business you love!
